Abstract

Purpose

The paper aims to build the connections between game theory and the resource allocation problem with general uncertainty. It proposes modeling the distributed resource allocation problem by Bayesian game. During this paper, three basic kinds of uncertainties are discussed. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to build the connections between game theory and the resource allocation problem with general uncertainty.

Design/methodology/approach

In this paper, the Bayesian game is proposed for modeling the resource allocation problem with uncertainty. The basic game theoretical model contains three parts: agents, utility function, and decision-making process. Therefore, the probabilistic weighted Shapley value (WSV) is applied to design the utility function of the agents. For achieving the Bayesian Nash equilibrium point, the rational learning method is introduced for optimizing the decision-making process of the agents.

Findings

The paper provides empirical insights about how the game theoretical model deals with the resource allocation problem uncertainty. A probabilistic WSV function was proposed to design the utility function of agents. Moreover, the rational learning was used to optimize the decision-making process of agents for achieving Bayesian Nash equilibrium point. By comparing with the models with full information, the simulation results illustrated the effectiveness of the Bayesian game theoretical methods for the resource allocation problem under uncertainty.

Originality/value

This paper designs a Bayesian theoretical model for the resource allocation problem under uncertainty. The relationships between the Bayesian game and the resource allocation problem are discussed.

This paper aims to develop sliding mode control (SMC) methods for second-order multi-agent systems (MAS) in the presence of mismatched uncertainties.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to develop sliding mode control (SMC) methods for second-order multi-agent systems (MAS) in the presence of mismatched uncertainties.

Design/methodology/approach

Based on the disturbance observer (DOB), discontinuous and continuous sliding mode protocols are designed to achieve finite-time consensus in spite of the disturbances.

Findings

Compared with integral SMC, numerical simulation results show that the proposed control methods exhibit better performance with respect to reduction of chattering.

Originality/value

The main contributions are the following: MAS described with mismatched uncertainties are considered; both discontinuous and continuous sliding mode controllers are considered; with the proposed sliding mode controller, the desired sliding surface can be reached in finite time and the DOB is introduced in the controller to alleviate the chattering phenomenon.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to propose a robust control scheme for near space vehicle's (NSV's) reentry attitude tracking problem under aerodynamic parameter variations and external disturbances.

Design/methodology/approach

The robust control scheme is composed of dynamic surface control (DSC) and least squares support vector machines (LS‐SVM). DSC is used to design a nonlinear controller for HSV; then, to increase the robustness and improve the control performance of the controller. LS‐SVM is presented to estimate the lumped uncertainties, including aerodynamic parameter variations and external disturbances. The stability analysis shows that all closed‐loop signals are bounded, with output tracking error and estimate error of LS‐SVM weights exponentially converging to small compacts.

Findings

Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective, leading to promising performance.

Originality/value

First, a robust control scheme composed of DSC and adaptive LS‐SVM is proposed for NSV's reentry attitude tracking problem under aerodynamic parameter variations and external disturbances; second, the proposed method can achieve more favorable tracking performances than conventional dynamic surface control because of employing LS‐SVM to estimate aerodynamic parameter variations and external disturbances.

Abstract

Purpose

Torque is one of the main parameters reflecting the operation status and detection of a mechanical rotation system. The use of quartz pillar to design torque sensors has advantage over the use of quartz disk, but research into the torsional effect of quartz pillar is rare. This paper aims to investigate a novel type of torque sensor based on piezoelectric torsional effect.

Design/methodology/approach

Based on the theory of anisotropic elasticity and the Maxwell electromagnetism, the torsion stress and distribution of surface charge of a rectangular quartz pillar are calculated. Using finite element analysis, the polarized electric field of the piezoelectric pillar is solved. According to the theoretical calculation of torsional effect of piezoelectric quartz pillar, detection electrodes are mounted on the surface of the quartz pillar and a new type of torque sensor is designed.

Findings

The calibration experimental results show that the bound charges are proportional to the torque applied, and the torque sensor has fully reached the dynamometer standard.

Originality/value

This paper shows that the torsional effect of the developed piezoelectric quartz pillar can be used to create a new type of piezoelectric torque sensor.

Based on the text mining tools, this paper aims to propose a new method to evaluate the subjectivity and objectivity of corporate social responsibility information disclosure.

Abstract

Purpose

Based on the text mining tools, this paper aims to propose a new method to evaluate the subjectivity and objectivity of corporate social responsibility information disclosure.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors build up a text subjectivity evaluation model of corporate social responsibility reports through meta-analysis; a text mining is conducted to all sample CSR reports released by Chinese listed companies untill March 2016[1]. Furthermore, the authors made an overall and quantitative analysis of the situation which contained changing state, characteristics and abnormal value on the subjectivity and objectivity of information disclosure.

Findings

The results show that the subjectivity scores of social responsibility reports of Chinese listed companies are generally in a normal distribution. The diagram turns out to be a rising trend over the years and increases linearly from 2011 to 2013. Also, the industry heterogeneity and policy control are the main reasons for the formation of the differences, which are significant between different industries and different years.

Originality/value

This paper provides not only an important empirical basis for the research of corporate social responsibility but also a new idea for the non-financial information disclosure as well as objective evaluation of normative text.
